Life Drawing

Drawing from life

Life drawing is a serious focus for me in my drawing practice.  My aim is capture the sense of what is inside the person, how to get to the emotions, the personality beyond the visual.

No matter what has happened in my life, travel, kids, work, living in different countries, I have always kept a continuous practice of life drawing.  Through-out my life I have had incredible teachers, from the rigorous teaching in NSW tech college, to the inspirational at RMIT, and Royal Drawing school in London.

The most transformational was Ron Curran who taught Dynamic Drawing every week in Fitzroy and then back at Byron.

Most recently, I have had the honour also to be part of Felicity Gordon’s Drawing Intensive, giving me a week’s long intensive of drawing all day every day.

Here are some examples from these different times, places and inspirations.

Expressive Drawing workshops

Drawing has always been something where we might consider that we don’t have the right technical skills or experience to draw.  The way I like to approach drawing workshops is to explore both sides of the expressive freedom of drawing with a foundational understanding…

Beach camp studio

I find I am most at home in the beach camp site where I ‘escape’ to every year for at least two months, and the work made at camp is so raw and immediate from the experiences of being fully immersed in the bushland and coast along the foreshore on the Mornington…
